Why We Are Happier During Summer

There's something about waking up to sunshine, birds chirping, and warm air that puts many of us in a better mood. But why do we notice such a shift in our feelings and emotions when the seasons change? It turns out that there actually are scientific reasons you're happier in the summer; the warm weather and your sunny mood are no coincidence. It's rather common to feel more satisfied during the hotter, brighter months, and when this season gives way to the longer, darker days of winter (depending on where you live, of course), we'll once again experience a shift.

So what is it about summer that puts us so at peace? Why are we so much happier this time of year? Here's what we know:

1. Our Sleeping Habits Change Due To Light Exposure

The number of hours of daytime and nighttime have been found to have an effect on how and when we sleep. One study compared Norway (a country with large seasonal variation) to Ghana (a country with little seasonal variation).

2. Our Eating Habits Change In The Summer, Too

There are a couple of possible explanations for this one. One of the more simple reasons is that with the holidays of the winter seasons, certain types of foods are more abundant and frequent. But it goes deeper than that: It could actually come down to biology — our bodies' primitive instinct is to stockpile and store up for the winter months ahead. One study found that both our eating habits and our body weight change by season, with people consuming on average 86 more calories each day in the fall, compared to spring. Fall also brought more fatty foods than spring. None of this is to say that the foods we eat in the winter are "worse" than the foods we eat in the summer, by the way; they're just different, and they affect us in different ways.

3. Sunshine Can Be Great For Our Bodies

It goes without saying that there are very real, very scary risks associated with sun exposure, and that protecting yourself from harmful UV rays is tantamount. But sunlight is also quite vital to our health and happiness, and when you use it correctly, the benefits are significant. For instance, when you get sunlight, your body produces vitamin D from cholesterol, which helps your body absorb calcium. This is important for our bone health.

The Floral Shirt

The face of men’s fashion is changing. The wardrobe of the modern male population has gone from the classic grey to the extremely alluring floral patterns. When it comes to wearing the bold and vibrant floral print, the art of pulling off this edgy look is something every man needs to learn. For all the men who are planning to go floral this bikini season, listed below are tips that may come handy for you. The floral appearance from head to toe is a bit tricky to pull off. Not every man can look dapper in the bold and vibrant patterns. Thus, it is advisable to contrast the shade with solid colors. Either wear a floral dress shirt or a bottom featuring the sassy print. You can even pair the button down with denim shorts. Nothing can beat the look of a man sporting a dress shirt with the white shorts. Floral printed shirt looks best with black jeans. Other than this, even you are wearing a floral coat, then, make sure that the shirt features solid color. The combination that contrast each other will make you stand out from rest of the mass.

Total white looks can be fun! And thats completely true. Lately I find myself wearing suits all the time or leather jackets, so this time I wanted to wear something more fun. So I chose my white Pepe Jeans London Jacket and paired it with white jeans and white T-shirt.

THE STATEMENT KNIT

When you hear the word “sweater,” what do you first visualise? A grey, greenish, navy or brown-hued, chunky knit combination - slightly baggy and oversized - automatically surfaces somewhere in your mind. Symbolically, it is warmth for a chilly day condensed down into a single garment that’s cut perfectly for wearing over a button-down shirt or roll-neck. The statement knit, a trend that caught our eye roughly a year ago, obliterates all that. Forget about cable knits; the finer the gauge, the better. With texture taking a back seat, it opens up the gates for colours, patterns, prints and graphics: If you can see it on a tee, bomber, or ski jacket, it’s now on a sweater, too.

A Sunny Sunday

Jeans and a T-shirt is the most basic outfit known to man, the most comfortable to wear, and thus one of the hardest to pull off. Because when you're only wearing two pieces of clothing and both of them are the most widely produced menswear items on the planet, finding the perfect versions of each—and wearing them together—requires the ability to know what fits your body best. It also requires you to know what tee goes with what jeans best, and which colors and washes just won't jive. Luckily, I found mine favorite at the moment by Pepe Jeans London.

Crew neck jumpers are essentially endless when creating a look tailored to your own style. Additionally,  the crew neck for sure, is built for layering. Essentially crowning it as the best jumper for many modern man. Whether it’s autumn or spring, our own recommendation is to layer your knit with a touch of denim, especially if you’re opting for a chain or jacquard knit. If you want to casual-down your outfit for maximum comfort, then don’t be afraid to loose the jacket and switch the shoes.

The Aviator Look

The aviator jacket is an absolute must-have for autumn and winter. So here at the gentlemans diary, we have decided to create a simple guide on buying, owning and wearing this absolute classic. We love it and so will you. You just need one piece!

Do you need something that’ll inject a dose of proper manliness into your wardrobe? Are you sick of the same old jacket styles season after season? You’ve done the parka, the Harrington and the bomber jacket and you’re out of ideas. Well, we have just the guide for you and it involves a classic favourite of ours; the men’s aviator jacket.

The aviator jacket, also known as the pilot jacket or flight jacket is absolutely timeless and is anything but your standard men’s leather jacket. And although you might be thinking the last man to be seen effortlessly rocking an Aviator jacket was a young Leonardo DiCaprio in the appropriately named Hollywood classic The Aviator, at least you know you’re in good company. But you don’t need to own an aeroplane or even a pilot’s license to look good in this wardrobe essential.

I found the ideal aviator jacket and it is from Pepe Jeans. Guys you should all go and check it out.

The it-leather jacket

Lately, it’s all about leather in my outfits. Not leather imitation, real, quality, leather. That’s the only kind I want.

Recently I could have purchased a leather imitation jacket for myself for pennies… but I chose real leather instead. It looks way better, it feels way better and it will look great for years.

One thing that I looked at when I got my leather jacket was the pockets. I don’t really go for jackets that have a lot of zippers. the fewer the better. Call it a matter of personal preference but I’d rather “load” my outfit with some separate accessories than with some annoying zippers. How do you like my new PEPE JEANS leather jacket?

RIDE WITH ME

One of the things I absolutely *LOVE* to do here at Be Stylish is to take a complete outfit, reverse-engineer it, then tell you how to put it back together for yourself.

But classy suits and silk slim ties is not the only thing that’s stylish. A biker look can show just as much style as the most expensive suit IF you wear it in the right circumstances. Plus, you need to BE the kind of guy who would wear something like this.

Today I want to present to you a classic biker look. The black-grey t-shirt and jeans are everything you need. You don’t need much help here, just go for some simple denim.

Boots! if you’re really going for that biker look, the books will make the whole difference. Just imagine Dustin in wearing black leather shoes instead. he wouldn’t make that much of a fashion statement in that case.

Add to the boots a leather belt, a cool haircut and we’re done… or are we?

Remember: it’s all in the details.

Buying a Swimsuit
Total Look: Pepe Jeans

Total Look: Pepe Jeans

Swimsuits are, relative to a lot of menswear, forgiving garments to shop for. You don’t need an absolutely perfect tailored fit, so long as the suit stays up when you dive in (and most have a cord at the waist to help with that).

You are likely to only have one or two swim garments in your wardrobe at a time, so it’s worth finding ones you really like.

Men who are planning on hitting up beach parties and crowd scenes need to be a little pickier. And businessmen who may end up in the spa or hotel pool with co-workers and business partners have their own special concerns. Ask yourself:

Are you trying to impress anyone? If not, stop worrying. Wear whatever is comfortable and works for you.

Are you trying to look professional? Conservative (but not exaggerated) length, conventional styles (trunks or square-cuts), and dark, solid colors or restrained stripes are for you. Navy blue with brass-colored grommets and white rope ties are always safe.

Do you want to look as good as you can? If so, you’ll need a cut that flatters your body type (see below), and a color and pattern that’s eye-catching without being ridiculous. Think stripes, plaids, bright solids, or some not-too-crazy floral patterning. Larger men should avoid close-cut styles like board shorts, despite them being in fashion.

These questions will affect the color, patterning, and cut you decide to go with. My choice is this Pepe Jeans swimsuit and shirt that really flatters my body and express my personality.

A Day In The Comfiest Jeans
Total outfit by Pepe Jeans / Bandana: Vintage by my collection

If there’s one thing you want to do at the end of the day, it’s wiggle out of your jeans and throw on a pair of sweatpants. But what if you bought such comfortable jeans that you didn’t even need—or want—to change out of them?

It’s totally possible, which is why I thought that you would appreciate showing you the comfiest pair of jeans that I own by Pepe Jeans. I was spending last week in Monemvasia, when I tried on those jeans for the first time. From that moment that pair of jeans become my on-the-go jeans. They fitted so well and I felt completely free to move.

Below you can find some tips and simple rules to choose your own comfy pair of jeans:

  • They should have some stretch to them. Often, that means there is some spandex mixed into the fabric. With stretch, you can move how you want without feeling stiff (exactly how traditional denim can be).
  • They should feel broken in by the time you slide them in. None of this you can’t breathe in them/they hardly move with you/you’re hoping a few washes will fix them. Nope, they have to be jeans that you want to walk out of the fitting room wearing.
