BMW Looks to the Future With Its Vision Next 100 Concept

This year marks the 100-year anniversary of The Ultimate Driving Machine and, to celebrate, BMW has unveiled its most futuristic concept to date. Dubbed the Vision Next 100, the car follows the likes of January’s i8 concepts and envisions what the BMW of 2116 may look like. The result? A low-sitting, fully electric sedan that boasts the likes of four butterfly doors (each of which opens via proximity sensors), “flexible skin”-covered wheels, and the ability to drive itself. The car even boasts a driver-centric Boost mode whereby the driver takes control of the wheel as “Alive Geometry” presents three-dimensional warning messages or even shows the optimum line and speed the driver should take on the road. If autonomous Ease mode is more your style, however, you can kick back as the steering wheel becomes flush with the dash, the seats recline to a more comfy limo-like ride and the car itself points out surrounding scenery and passing landmarks. The Vision Next 100 also employs a so-called Companion personal assistant that monitors both the driver and passengers, learns their habits and adapts to their needs over time — it can even interact with nearby pedestrians.

For more on the German automotive giant’s vision of century ahead, venture on over to BMW’s dedicated Next 100 website.

Small Summer Cabin in Norway

Norwegian studio Lund Hagem has designed a beautiful cabin nestled between two large boulders. The boulders create a natural formation making a protected area, of which the building is accessible from a small path cutting through a heavily vegetated area. The design of the cabin itself was also intended to extend its natural surroundings, with a unique precast roof that juts out from the side of the rock and angles down to meet the ground. This roof also doubles as a staircase that leads to the deck, while the interior and exterior are seamlessly integrated. Check out more sleek and innovative designs at Lund Hagem’s site.

Louis W. for A.P.C. 2016 Spring/Summer Collection

Taking cues from films like Brideshead Revisited and Maurice, this season’s Louis W. for A.P.C. collection looks to the sports culture of English private schools. The result, “Club Kids Society,” refers to both sporting clubs and nightclubs alike and features designs like the baseball-like dark navy satin Tim bomber, stonewashed denim Walter, plaid-patterned Lawrence and striped wool Brett. Alongside the jackets are knitwear pieces like a cricket-inspired crew neck cable.

Shot here by Bruno Staub in upstate New York and modeled by Devon Mastro, A.P.C.’s Louis Wong-designed pieces are available in stores and online now with prices ranging from $340 to $1,835 USD.

Inside Cai Guo-Qiang's New York Art Studio

Step into artist Cai Guo-Qiang’s personal headquarters in downtown New York City. Its recent renovation and expansion sees historic elements from the building juxtaposed against newer materials of translucent resin. A resin-built wall is the central spine of the building and not only distributes natural light to multiple studios but references Cai’s work of unfolding different scenes on a common space. On the cellar level, we see a library, filled with the artist’s collection of publications, and a traditional tea room for reception. The building is a masterful site-specific approach to the cultural backdrop of Cai’s artwork. Ferrari Says Farewell to the FF and Hello to the GTC4 Lusso

Ferrari’s short lived FF — an abbreviation for the “Ferrari Four” because of it’s four-wheel-drive feature — has officially come to an end. While some argue that it was one of the most aesthetically “interesting” Ferrari super cars, apparently the Italian automakers aren’t completely done with the “shooting brake” design, as they now unveil the GTC4 Lusso. The new vehicle showcases subtle body re-design cues found at the front bumper and the air intakes. A roof-mounted spoiler cleans up the rear end while a rear under-mounted diffuser set against the quad exhaust tips solidifies an aggressive stance. Performance-wise, the GTC4 Lusso holds a 6.2-liter V12 engine that outputs both 680 horsepower and 515 pound-feet of torque — 0-60 is now at a ridiculous 3.4 seconds. In addition to the engine, a unique rear-wheel steering (the rear wheels turn against the direction of the front wheels for sharper cornering) works alongside the Slip Side Control system attached to the electronic differential for unrivaled handling.

The first guests to witness the GTC4 Lusso in person will be the attendants of the 86th Annual Geneva Motor Show in March.

Though images of the interior haven’t been releases as of yet, Bentley’s premium leather upholstery and a number of trimming options can be expected.

IWC Schaffhausen Mark XVIII Top Gun Miramar

IWC Schaffhausen’s Top Gun tribute series to the 1986 film has become one of the watch brand’s most popular lines within the Pilot collection since its introduction in 2012, making the unveiling of the Mark XVIII Top Gun Miramar at this year’s SIHH watch fair a natural progression. Encased in a 41mm ceramic case, the timepiece stays true to its Miramar lineage with a minute and seconds on the main chapter ring and hours on the inner red chapter ring. This mirrors the historical need for military and aviation-geared watches to accurately display seconds, which were crucial to determining location in an era before advanced aviation tools. Powered by an automatic caliber 30110 with a 42-hour power reserve, the case is also shielded to electromagnetism to reduce interference with cockpit instruments. An embossed green calfskin leather strap frames the timepiece, which was designed to emulate the nylon NATO straps of the military.
