hufton + crow have just released a new set of images documenting the exterior facade of the now completed 520 West 28th building by Zaha Hadid Architects. Proposed in 2013, the luxurious condo complex houses 39 units — priced between $4.95 million and $50 million USD depending on the size — and is brimming with the architect’s signature use of curves, and choice of material.

As the first completed project in the city, the building is situated in an ever-growing neighbourhood, which sees a number of art galleries and restaurants, but with amenities like an IMAX cinema, large gymnasium, swimming pool, and extended outdoor section, the building is more than well equipped for a night in.

Meet Monemvasia, A Hidden ‘Fortress Town’
IMG_E7023.jpg

Discovering a secret town? Well that’s one way to get off the beaten path.

We’ve seen a few hidden towns in our day (mostly in America), but never one quite as beautiful as the town of Monemvasia, Greece.Perched on an island off the east coast of the Peloponnese, Monemvasia’s name means “single entrance” in Greek.

The “hidden” spot boasts a massive Byzantine fortress (hence the nickname “fortress town”), but one thing is definitely in plain sight — the huge selection of nearby beaches, open to tourists and locals alike.Poet Yiannis Ritsos once called Monemvasia “a ship of stone,” and those who have visited rave about “rugged, salt-of-the earth beauty” that provides “a refreshing escape” from the real world.

If you need to unplug, hide out on the island and spend your days looking for traces of Byzantine, Frankish, Venetian and Ottoman influences in town, which mean there’s impressive architecture and history nearly everywhere you turn.Though if you’re in for a bit of adventure, the best attraction on the island is the Kastania Cave.

Described as a must-see attraction by tourists, the cave took millions of years to form and is packed full of rare geological wonders. And right next door, you’ll find a cafe and a church that was once visited by pirates. Sign us up!Experts say Greece is great in the winter, meaning now is a perfect time to go. Escape crowds, indulge in the delicious Mediterranean cuisine, and explore the ancient history of Monemvasia.

You can reach Monemvasia by cruise or bus, and a ferry is available during the summer months. We’ll see you there!

Craving Summer

Summer is the most carefree time of the year. After a long winter, I find myself craving the warmth of the summer sun and all the activities that come along with it. Here are a few reasons why you may be craving the summer season just like me.

  1. Summer concerts: Whether you love country, rock, pop, or rap, you could not be more excited for your summer music venue to open it's door for summer. These nights become the ones you'll never forget.
  2. County Fairs : Whether you live in a small country town or in a big city, the travel to any local fair over the summer is worth it.
  3. Driving with the windows down : There's not a better feeling in the world than driving with the windows down during the summer and blaring your favorite music for all to hear.
  4. Beach days : Sometimes you need to take a break from all the chaos that summer brings and just have a relaxing beach day with your friends. Whether you're on a lake or an ocean, nothing beats relaxing at the beach on a hot summer day.
  5. Boating : Boating with family and friends during the summer months is how some of the best summer memories are made. Tubing and water skiing are just added bonuses to the fun of boating.
  6. Hiking with family and friends is an experience all its own but nothing beats the rewarding view you get at the top.
  7. Ice cream dates : You know that summer is right around the corner when your favorite ice cream shop opens for business in early spring. Over the summer you are guaranteed to always see someone you know when you go to get ice cream at your favorite local spot.
  8. Old friends : Overall, the best summer memories are made when you meet up with your old high school friends and catch up like nothing has changed.

A Day In The Comfiest Jeans
Total outfit by Pepe Jeans / Bandana: Vintage by my collection

Total outfit by Pepe Jeans / Bandana: Vintage by my collection

If there’s one thing you want to do at the end of the day, it’s wiggle out of your jeans and throw on a pair of sweatpants. But what if you bought such comfortable jeans that you didn’t even need—or want—to change out of them?

It’s totally possible, which is why I thought that you would appreciate showing you the comfiest pair of jeans that I own by Pepe Jeans. I was spending last week in Monemvasia, when I tried on those jeans for the first time. From that moment that pair of jeans become my on-the-go jeans. They fitted so well and I felt completely free to move.

Below you can find some tips and simple rules to choose your own comfy pair of jeans:

  • They should have some stretch to them. Often, that means there is some spandex mixed into the fabric. With stretch, you can move how you want without feeling stiff (exactly how traditional denim can be).
  • They should feel broken in by the time you slide them in. None of this you can’t breathe in them/they hardly move with you/you’re hoping a few washes will fix them. Nope, they have to be jeans that you want to walk out of the fitting room wearing.

Paul McCartney's 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT Is Up For Sale

Last week, we saw John Lennon’s 1969 Monkey Bike go up for auction; this week, another Beatles memorabilia is available to purchase: Sir Paul McCartney‘s 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 coupé. The glamorous vintage car was delivered to Paul McCartney during the height of The Beatles‘ popularity. It’s believed to be one of the four imported into the UK via air freight by British United Air Ferries and its previous owner — a well-known automobile collector — bought the car twice, selling it in 1989 only to reacquire it in 1996.

This classic Italian car has a wine red finish with beige pigskin interiors. Its 4.0L V12 engine offers a broad range of smooth torque that achieves high levels of performance “without noise, fuss, temperament or drama,” according to Autocar magazine. The storied vehicle comes with accompanying documentation such as sundry bills, a copy of the old UK V5 registration and an old-style logbook.

Check out Paul McCartney’s 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT above and head over to Bonhams’ website for more details. For more automobile eye candy, Morgan Motor Company debuted its extremely limited bespoke Aero GT sports car.

Ford Updates the Mustang for 2019
2019-ford-mustang-1.jpg

American automotive giant Ford is set to release a string of new options for its iconic Mustang model. None of the new updates drastically rework the classic car, with a range of new appearance packages and functional elements all available for 2019.

Some of the key upgrades include another version of the California Special appearance package with a fading side stripe across the middle of the door, stick-on fake scoops, a custom black grille and a black and red “California Special” badge. Other new features of the reworked Mustangs include a rev-matching function to smooth downshifts, an active exhaust with changeable volume and a 1,000 watt 12-speaker B&O Play soundsystem.

All of these new features can be paired with an expanded selection of exterior colorways, including the brand new “Velocity Blue” and “Need for Green.” As it stands, a pricing structure for the new Ford Mustang packages is yet to be released, but the first cars will be available this summer.

Mercedes-Benz Revamps the G-Class With Stainless Steel
mercedes-benz-g-class-stainless-steel-1.jpg

First revealed in January at the Detroit Motor Show, the Mercedes G-Class has been showcased in an assortment of different high-end makes, including the all-red “Night Package” and murdered-out Edition 1. Following the other drool-worthy reveals, this latest iteration is informed by stainless steel accents and enveloped in a cool-hued paint job.

Rear bumper detailing, sill protectors, door stripes, the spare tire carrier, and more are all executed in stainless steel, granting the car extra sturdiness and weather resistance. It’s not the only Mercedes-Benz model to feature the optional stainless steel treatment, but this is the first G-Class to offer the make. Fueled by a 4-liter twin turbo V8 and elevated by four-wheel drive, the SUV is friendly to both big city cruising and off-road exploration.

The G Class is already on roads now, with basic options starting at $123,600 USD. Most recently, Mercedes-Maybach revealed the safety symbol-projection feature of its 2019 S-Class.

Oceanco Releases the 115-Meter Long Tuhura Superyacht
oceanco-tuhura-superyacht-1.jpg

Oceanco has released its new super yacht, called the Tuhura. The vehicle, created in collaboration with Lobanov design studio, BMT Nigel Gee and Achille Salvagni, it looks to the past for its design inspiration. The exterior is modelled after canoes that were used by Polynesians. Igor Lobanov, from the eponymous studio, described the thinking behind the boat in a statement.“Our Tuhura is a simple idea. The thought was to take a natural shape similar to those seen in the earliest canoe-type craft and augment it multifold to a larger scale, using modern technology.”

The interior uses teak, gunmetal and bronze throughout while the engine is a hybrid Azipod CRP propulsion system. The system enables the vessel to move at speeds of up to 18 knots, an impressive speed for the 377-foot yacht. You can get more information about Oceanco’s Tuhura yacht from the company’s website.

In other yacht news, ENATA has created a “flying” yacht.

Characteristics of a Quality Overcoat
Coat: Zara / Jeans: Diesel / Shoes: Saint Laurent / Sunglasses: Saint Laurent / Knitwear: Zara

Coat: Zara / Jeans: Diesel / Shoes: Saint Laurent / Sunglasses: Saint Laurent / Knitwear: Zara

A good overcoat should be warm, fit you, and make you look great.

Fabric. If you plan to wear your overcoat for years to come, make sure you buy a coat that is made of 100% wool and that it weighs at least 4 pounds (for average-sized men). In general, heavier coats last longer because the fabric is more durable.

Sleeves. The coat sleeves should completely cover the suit sleeve as well as the shirt cuff, and even reach a little further down. This way, you should not get cold on your wrists when you wear gloves with it.

Length. Traditionally, overcoats were rather long-reaching garments, extending almost all the way to the ankles. These full-length coats are often the coat of choice for seasoned gentlemen as they can compliment a wide range of figures…to include those of us a bit rounder in the midsection.

Today, most younger men wear their coats knee-length, which is anywhere between the lower part of the knee to slightly above. This only compliments men with trim builds and who wear the coat closer to the body. It’s a convenient option if you find yourself entering and exiting your automobile multiple times a day.

If you pick a full-length or knee-length coat is a matter of choice, but bear in mind that the full-length coat may be warmer, and can make you look a little more seasoned than the knee-length coat.

Fit. When you buy an overcoat, make sure to wear a shirt and a sportscoat or suit jacket because the coat has to fit on top of it.

Some men like a looser fit while younger men often prefer a trimmer fit. However, if you see X-wrinkles when buttoning your overcoat, it is definitely too

The Return Of The Reebok Classic
IMG_3101.jpg

Love them or loathe them, the '90s favourite Reebok Classics are back on the fashion radar, with bloggers  spearheading the retro trainer renaissance. But if you remember them first time round, will you stick to time tested wisdom and leave well alone or bravely embrace the old-school look?

A mix of sporty and luxe (the combo of leather and nubuck making them an easy off-duty piece), the selection of colours brings a touch of masculinity to the chunky style. It may seem like a daring throwback, but street style stars prove you can put an adult spin on the look – just add tailored trousers and a camel coat  or a total denim outfit like me and treat them like a fun alternative to Stan Smiths or Nikes.

12 Vintage Clothing Rules You Can’t Shop Without
JACKET: VINTAGE / JEANS: LEVIS / SNEAKERS: VALENTINO

JACKET: VINTAGE / JEANS: LEVIS / SNEAKERS: VALENTINO

This time in London, I found myself strolling around in the streets and craving for some good vintage pieces. I have visited many shops and ending buying the brown suede jacket that you see in the photos. I really loved it and I bought it for just 45 pounds. Returning back home I though why not writing an article about what to be careful when you vintage shopping and which essentials rules to follow.

1. When you do find something you like, remember: If it is too small, throw it back! Alas, we are here to inform you—you are not going to lose that weight.

2. On the other hand, if it happens to be too big, it can often be taken in.

3. If it’s a knit, you can hand-wash it and sometimes resize it somewhat.

4. Check for holes by holding up the garment to a strong light. (Reweavers can work magic, but they are costly.)

5. If the fabric is weak, if the beads are falling off (and isn’t that always the case with your favorite thing in the whole shop?), it better be super-cheap.

6. If it smells nasty, the dry cleaner has a process to deodorize it, which can sometimes help.

7. Stains that have been in a garment for 20 years are not coming out.

8. Always check the armpits carefully! Here lies trouble.

9. Sometimes, if the fabric is washable and the item is white, you can maybe perk it up by soaking it in bleach. (Of course, it could also totally disintegrate in bleach, but that’s part of the fun of vintage clothing!)

10. Yesterday’s outerwear can be miserably heavy—make sure you won’t end up schlepping through next winter with a refrigerator tied to your back.

11. If you are new to the world of vintage—or if the above warnings have scared you to death—consider getting your feet wet with an aging accessory.

12. Your bargaining power will increase immeasurably if you bring cash. Nothing persuades a weary seller to meet your price more than subtly waving a thick wad under his or her greedy little nose. Plus, if you leave those credit cards at home, you can only spend the amount you brought with you—a foolproof way to cut down on costly mistakes! Sure, it’s difficult—but aren’t life’s worthiest lessons the ones that can seem hardest to accept?

How To Wear A Beret
thumb_IMG_E5786_1024.jpg

Wearing a beret may seem like a tricky sartorial manoeuvre, but it needn’t be. Worn since the Bronze Age, the hat went into mass production in 19th century France and Spain, and remains popular to this day. A timeless design, the beret cropped up at Loewe, Louis Vuitton, Prada and Wales Bonner this season, among others. Here is a way to wear the latest trend. I paired it up with my Massimo Dutti Camel Coat, a white sophisticated wool turtleneck from Massimo Dutti as well, with a khaki pair of trousers and my Santoni leather boots. My Beret is from my personal collection and it is a vintage one.

HOUSE 99 BY DAVID BECKHAM
thumb_IMG_5860_1024.jpg

David Beckham hosted a party on Wednesday 28th of February to mark the launch of his new men’s grooming brand, House 99. Hosted in London’s warehouse club Electrowerkz, the evening featured performances by Loyle Carner and DJ sets from Nick Grimshaw and Josh Ludlow. Luckily I was invited as well. The vibe was great and the guests were dope!

The world of experimental hairstyles and changing looks is a well-known to Beckham. “I created House 99 to give people the inspiration as well as the right products to experiment and feel completely at home doing so,” he said.

Guests were enlivened by Carner’s performance, which included an impromptu freestyle rap dedicated to the footballer and songs from his hit album “Yesterday’s Gone.” Dressed in a black Champion hoodie, the rising star drew a crowd of exhilarated guests who rapped along to his confessional, soul-searching lyrics. Fábio Marques, the renowned barber from Lisbon’s Figaro’s barbershop who helped Beckham with the venture, was also in attendance. Figaro’s is known as a haven of male grooming and feels like an old-fashioned club with tiled floors, brick arches and animal heads on the walls.

House 99 rolls out to retailers in 19 countries starting this week.

Why I Love London in the Winter
GENTLEMANSDIARYMAGAZINE.jpg

London is definitely for me an impeccable destination during winter time. Here’s why London should be on your winter-travel list—and how to make the most of your time while you’re there:

Embrace the Weather: I can’t tell you how many English people have told me—usually with a wink—that it’s not bad weather, just bad clothing! And it’s true. Having the right gear is essential, so be sure to pack your umbrella and rain boots. “The truth is, the weather in England is terrible year-round so coming in the winter only guarantees that there will be less people,” Lauren confided. “At least in the winter, you can feel that the cold and wet is seasonally appropriate!” Once you’re on the ground, there are countless places to escape the drear and drizzle.

Find a New Street to Love: On this trip I discovered Lamb’s Conduit, a pocket-size street tucked away in Bloomsbury and refreshingly free of chain stores. It’s small enough that you can wander in the rain without much trouble and has plenty of cafés and shops  to duck into for respite along the way. For sustenance, try family-run Vats Wine Bar and Restaurant or chic Cigala for Spanish tapas.

Luxuriate Over Lunch: When it’s cold outside, you want to indulge in long lunches. The best place I found to do that was at one of London’s most anticipated restaurant openings, Spring at Somerset House. On a particularly gray day with sheets of rain pouring down, I was happy to be cocooned in a large, airy space with white columns, globed chandeliers, and textured blue walls, dining on grilled fish and bitter chocolate mousse.

Try an Alpine-Style Hangout: Though it’s far from the Alps—or from any mountain range, for that matter—London has its own pop-up alpine-style retreats. Hugo Campbell-Davys, founder of Urbanologie, recommends dining on a high altitude-inspired barbecue menu at Le Chalet, lit with candles and twinkly lights atop Selfridges department store, or ordering “hot and toasty” après-ski cocktails at Piste in Soho.

Explore a New Museum: London’s museums are (mostly) free to visit, and many house gorgeous cafés in addition to brilliant artwork. On another afternoon, I parked myself in the sumptous mosaic-clad eatery at the Victoria and Albert. In Marylebone, I discovered what feels like a hidden gem, at least for visitors: the Wallace Collection. Though there are Rembrandts and Rubens adorning the walls, I spent the most time in a gallery filled with paintings of Venice, many centuries old and painted for British tourists who visited the city on their Grand Tour.

Go Where the Locals Go: Once again, I relied on locals advises to guide me to their favorite neighborhood spots in Notting Hill. At Walmer Castle, which looks like a classic English pub, I dug into delicious Thai food amid a boisterous local crowd. She also drew my attention to Beach Blanket Babylon, one of her favorite places to meet for post-work drinks with friends. “It lends itself to cozy conversations around their fireplace while sipping sparkling drinks and generous glasses of wine,” they said. “It’s definitely a place someone has to bring you to or you’d never know about it.”

New Obsession
thumb_IMG_E5116_1024.jpg

Spring is around the corner. And it was time to search for another pair of sunglasses in order to beat the sunshine. Searching for the perfect pair of sunglasses, I found the one that I fell completely in love with them. And it is a pair of YSL sunglasses. The color, the shape, the design, everything on them felt like you need them! So, I did! I bought them.

During my last trip in London for the International launch of house99 by David Beckham, they were like my best friend. I didn't even need to take with me a second pair because they suit with all my outfits.

Go check them and do not hesitate to text me if you need some extra tips.

I Went Plant Shopping + Plant Shopping Guide
pasquale in london.jpg

Buying plants for your garden can be an overwhelming experience. It helps to have a list so you are less likely to come home with impulse buys for which you don’t have the space or the right growing conditions.

Choose a well-run garden center

You’ll find plants sold in many different places from small garden centres to grocery store parking lots, home centers to big box stores. Steer clear of temporary plant stands that sprout like crabgrass each spring. Yes, you can scoop up deals, but generally the selection is skimpy, the staff not well trained, and the plants not watered often enough.

When buying plants, look for these signs of quality in a garden center:

  • A good selection of well-maintained plants arranged logically; for example, perennials for different conditions, such as sun or shade, displayed together in groups
  • Labels showing plants in bloom, how-to-grow information, and expected size and spread
  • Nursery wagons or carts to hold your purchases while you shop and aisles wide enough to maneuver them easily
  • Knowledgeable staff who can answer gardening questions, make suggestions, or who will take the time to find someone who can

Buying plants – bigger is better

With annuals, it’s fine to buy small ones – these plants grow to maturity very quickly – but with perennials, bigger is better. Often new gardeners opt for perennials in small 4-inch pots because they’re not confident they will be successful. The reasoning goes: “If the plants die, I haven’t lost as much.” But buying plants in tiny pots can be a misplaced saving because the smaller the plants, the more time you’ll have to spend nurturing them. You’ll have to watch that faster-growing plants or weeds don’t overpower them, that they don’t dry out, and that you don’t pull them out by mistake.

When buying plants, look for:

  • Balanced, healthy looking growth and well-colored leaves.
  • Avoid yellowed leaves (unless they’re supposed to be yellow); browned, stunted, or slimy leaves are signs of insect, wilting, frost or disease damage. Abundant new growth indicates a vigorous plant.
  • Healthy roots: If you can do so without damaging the plant, pop it out of its container and look at the roots. Are they root-bound – strangled mass of roots circling around and virtually no potting soil visible, or is there a good proportion of soil to roots?
  • Soil surfaces covered with weeds or moss usually indicate the plant has been in the same container a long time and may be pot-bound. Such plants will often struggle to get established in your garden.

Buying plants – colour sells

When buying plants, gardeners make a beeline to flowers in bloom. Of course, seeing the blooms is handy: it’s easier to decide whether a plant fits your color scheme. However, many perennials for sale in spring are coaxed into early blooming in greenhouses before they would normally bloom in the garden. The next season, your perennial will bloom at the normal time for the species, which is usually a bit later. The normal time for blooming should be indicated on the plant tag.

Personally when I have a choice between a perennial in full bloom or one that’s just beginning to bud, I pick the latter: I want it to bloom in my garden, not at the store.

The Perfect Casual Jacket For Spring
Total outfit by Pepe jeans

Total outfit by Pepe jeans

Spring is around the corner! And we have to be well prepared for the new season. One of my latest crushes is this Pepe jeans bomber jacket! A bomber jacket is the perfect men’s spring jacket as it works just as well for both day and night. Just like many other men’s wardrobe staples, the origins of this garment can be found in the 20th century’s military wear. The MA-1 flight jacket was designed for the US Air Force in the 50s and was worn by US pilots up until the Golf war.Today, bomber jackets come in different fabrics. The most common ones are nylon, suede and leather.  If you already own a black bomber jacket, it may be time to pick a whiter tone.

Style and Fit

With bomber jackets, you can keep it casual or dress it up. Match your jacket with a pair of trousers, a pair of trainers and a white shirt to get a trendy and sharp look.

When choosing a bomber jacket, you should pay special attention to the shoulders. It’s the most important aspect for a perfect fit.

  • The jacket seams should lie directly on the corner of your shoulder
  • You should be capable of lifting your arms without struggle
  • Regarding the length, the jacket should hit the top of your hips.
  • Bomber jackets are usually slim fitted, yet you should be able to zip it up easily

How to wear the grey Hackett London suit

Suit: Hackett London / Shirt: Hackett London / Scarf: Personal Collection

When it comes to suits, nothing beats the staples. And by staples, we mean black, navy and grey. Navy and black have always had a general popularity for their adaptability, but grey also emerges as a worthy suit colour choice. In fact, grey suits have become more prevalent in street style, their versatility especially appealing to the younger market. For something clean, understated and classic, a grey suit does the trick. However grey can also be tricky to perfect. Done right grey reads youthful and modern; done wrong it will leave you looking outdated and frumpy. To style formal light grey suits, keep in mind that it is all about contrast. With your formal shirts, a crisp white shirt is failsafe paired with a black tie or a scarf, but do not fear to experiment with other colours. A muted powder blue complements light grey and other pastel tones can work well also. Balance out your silhouette with a slimmer tie to modernise your look. Don’t forget that accessories are crucial to pulling together an outfit. Find a unique patterned pocket square and fedora to make your suit pop and stick to silver watches, tie bars and cuff links to align with the grey tones of your look.

My Parisian Looks
Jacket: Tommy Hilfiger / Cap: Balenciaga (old) / Shirt: Massimo Dutti / Turtleneck: COS

Jacket: Tommy Hilfiger / Cap: Balenciaga (old) / Shirt: Massimo Dutti / Turtleneck: COS

Parisian style is legendary. More than clothes, it's state of mind. With winter on the approach, take a look at how I styled my looks during my last visit in Paris. Most Paris men have moved on from the beret and pencil-thin moustache, but some classics like the Breton tee, rollnecks and well-cut blazers remain. Not forgetting the refined bohemian who still wanders the cobble-stone streets in silk, linen and some floppy type of hat. Key tip on how to dress like a Parisian? They are big on neatness (no hipster beards here) and impeccable fit, wearing clothes that highlight the silhouette, more so than big statement prints and look-at-me colours. Active wear is big in the French capital too, mixing with traditional tailoring that changes with the seasons: tweed in winter, cotton in summer. But the coolest truc of all for how to dress like a Parisian, is the simple way they work the basics – effortlessly donning a bomber, jeans and tee.

How to Survive Winter in Paris
IMG_4012.jpg

If you’re not used to low temperatures, Parisian winters can be tiring. Sunrise is late, sunset is early and sunlight is rare. It’s likely to be rainy with cold winds that will no doubt freeze you as you explore the city on foot. The weather might cause low morale and maybe even a bad mood. That being said, we want you to have a great experience in our city! We’ve therefore gathered some morale-boosting advice to help you fight off the cold temperatures and truly enjoy wintertime in Paris.

1. Dress appropriately

The first thing to do before stepping outside is to get the right set of clothes. Ideally this includes boots, a scarf, gloves and a hat or earmuffs. Keep in mind that you’re in a major fashion capital, so you’ll need to look fancy if you want to blend in with the locals! Being fashionable while staying warm is not that easy to achieve, so don’t hesitate to take some time to observe how Parisians dress. For instance, you’ll notice that bright colours aren’t very common and that many people wear black, especially in winter. There’s no real reason to explain why Parisians have such a passion for black clothes. Maybe it has something to do with their gloomy mood!

2. Take good care of yourself

Exercise is an excellent way to fight off the low temperatures. An economical way to get your heart rate up in Paris is to run in one of the city’s numerous parks. Getting motivated can be difficult, but you’ll soon discover that you’re not alone and seeing other runners will motivate you even more. You’ll feel healthier and your body will be better armed to brave the cold. Eating quality food is also important for staying in good condition. Another Parisian local listed the top 10 markets in Paris, including several excellent food markets offering fresh products. Lastly, the extreme temperatures repeatedly attack your skin, especially your face and hands. Luckily you can find many high-quality skincare and dermatological products in local shops and supermarkets.

3. Seek refuge in cafés

Cafés are great shelters when the cold is harsh and when it’s raining. Fortunately, there are many of them in the French capital. Brasseries, cafés, coffeehouses and tearooms enable you to have a break and warm up during your long escapades through the city. Cafés are typical meeting places for French people. It’s not unusual for Parisians to spend an entire afternoon at a café chatting with friends. They are also great places to taste French pastries. Don’t feel guilty – there are good reasons to treat yourself: 1) your body needs calories to store energy and 2) it’s not every day you’re in Paris! For the gourmands, we’ve created a sweet tooth’s guide to Paris so you can discover the city’s best pastries. If you’re more into warming yourself up with a hot drink, check out our guide to the best places for hot chocolate in Paris.

4. Enjoy the winter cityscape

The Paris cityscape is extra special in winter. The brown colour of the Seine is very different from summer. Time seems to stand still. Parks are much quieter and more atmospheric. The frozen environment is an invitation to reveries and romantic strolls. Sometimes snow disturbs the quiet environment and creates great bustle. It doesn’t snow very often in Paris, but when it does, it can be funny to observe what’s happening around you. People tend to use their cars more and create huge traffic jams. Many inhabitants wear shoes that aren’t designed for snowy conditions, so they slip on icy pavements. Even during these cold and difficult periods, you’ll notice that many Parisian’s don’t give up on style!

5. Do what locals do

When the weather isn’t nice, many Parisians prefer indoor activities. They go to exhibitions, museums, theatres, cinemas and concerts. Many cinemas screen films in the original language, so if you don’t speak French, you can still watch movies in English. Parisians also shop a lot and enjoy the winter sales. In 2015, the winter sales take place from January 7th until February 17th.

You can also keep warm at home – invite your friends over and prepare a great dinner for them! This is a great opportunity to complain about the cold weather. French people are known for being grumpy. They (we) complain about many things – it’s part of the culture. The weather is a common topic to complain about. Embrace this philosophy and grumble!

Better yet, you can stay at home under your comfortable quilt.
